How can I start a battered womens shelter?
I do volunteer work with womens groups and I see a massive need for a battered womens shelter in my community but we do not have one. I would like to start one on my own but am not sure how to go about it. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ask the people you work with in the other homes. I would think basically it would just take money. Either you would have to get someone to invest or some sort of government money. You would have to find a very large house and have the money to keep it up.
First you need a plan, then you need a location, then you need the money. Once you have a plan and the location constructed, talked to one of the people you work with about how organizations like those get started. Once you got the info, then you can start to see how much things will cost.
Will you let battered men in?
How about starting a shelter for both sexes? I'm sure you'll have no problem with getting grants from the government.

Women's groups consider shouting or "psychological abuse" to be abuse. Some of these people are homeless or just opportunistic and need a place to crash.
First you'll need to beat some women within an inch of their lives...the rest of it is just finding a place to pile the bodies.
